If the lonlely/horny feelings post breakup are driving you crazy (or even worse threatening to send you crawling back to the bad relationship) then maybe the fling is an OK response. Other than that the post-fling realization that it wasn’t emotionally satisfying plus that you don’t have someone with which to have emotionally satisfying sex with can make matters worse.

The best way to get over someone is to lose yourself in doing all the things you wanted to do but might have put off because of the time and effort of being in a relationship, particularly if those things involve activity, creativity, or getting out. Exercise, visit museums and shows, volunteer for causes you care about, and so forth. These will help you feel good about yourself and increase your chances of meeting someone right for you.

Hooking up to alleviate sadness about a breakup left me with a veneer of empowerment and happiness that vanished about 30 sec. after leaving.
